Two Singles, Two Doubles Advance at ITA Region III
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bryan Fisher and Sebastian Rutka, along with two men’s tennis doubles teams, advanced to day two play at the ITA Region III Men’s Tennis Championships on Friday in Lexington, Ky.
Rutka, the winner of last weekend’s flight No. 1 draw of the Tulane Invitational, continued to play well as he won back-to-back matches in the first and second rounds of the 128-players singles draw. Rutka will face Gernot Fischer of Texas Tech in the third round on Saturday at 9 a.m. CDT.
Fisher received a first-round bye before defeating qualifier Robert Van Swelm of Tory State in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. He will face second-seeded Bobby Reynolds of Vanderbilt in the third round, also at 9 a.m.
The doubles teams of Fisher and Jason Hazley, along with Rutka and Cory Ross, advanced to the second round of the 64-team draw. Fisher and Hazley will face eighth-seeded Mark Henderson and Wade Orr of Tennessee, who received a first-round bye, in the second round on Saturday. Rutka defeated 16th-seeded Orr in the second round of singles play on Friday.
Rutka and Ross face 11th-seeded Janne Holmia and Eleazar Magallan of Florida, who received a first-round bye.
