BATON ROUGE — The four-time defending Southeastern Conference champion Tiger softball team will host the 2002 LSU Fall Collegiate Classic this weekend at Tiger Park.
The six-team field includes LSU, Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana.
Play will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. with Southeastern Louisiana taking on Louisiana College. There are six games scheduled for Saturday with LSU playing Louisiana College at 12:30 p.m. and Bossier Parish Community College at 6:15 p.m.
On Sunday, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will take on Southeastern Louisiana in the first game of the day at 9 a.m. Six games are also scheduled for Sunday. LSU will play Nicholls State at 12:30 p.m. and close out the tournament against Mississippi Gulf Coast at 6:15 p.m.
Last year, the Tigers posted a 5-0 record in the Fall Classic, outscoring opponents 41-0. LSU defeated Okaloosa-Walton Community College, 8-0, before a 6-0 victory over in-state rival Southeastern Louisiana.
The Tigers closed out play on Saturday with a 10-0 win over Bossier Parish Community College. On Sunday, LSU beat William Carey College, 12-0, before finishing the weekend with a 5-0 victory over Nicholls State.
The Tigers will open the 2003 schedule at home in the Tiger Classic on Feb. 7 against Centenary at 2 p.m. LSU will also face Baylor, DePaul and Stephen F. Austin as part of the three-day tournament.
