Women 12th, Men 16th at Chile Pepper XC Meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In LSU’s first cross country meet in nearly three weeks the Lady Tigers posted a 12th-place finish and the men placed 16th Saturday at the Arkansas-hosted Chile Pepper Invitational.

Arkansas sweep the team titles as the Ladybacks won the competition scoring just 47 points and the men took home top honors with 48 total points. The Lady Tigers finished with 322 points, while the LSU men tallied 456 points.

Individually, senior Marian Burnett crossed the line first for the Lady Tigers’, placing 27th with a time of 22:12.89 over the 6K course. Sophomore Katie Denton and freshman Michelle Hymel finished shortly behind Burnett with times of 23:02.63 and 23:15.10, respectively.

Sophomore Jarrett Roche paced the Tiger squad turning in a team-best time of 32:47.70. Sophomore Ben Shumaker followed, running the 10K race in 32:55.98, while senior Jason Laine was next with a time of 33:05.57.

The LSU cross country team will take next weekend off as it prepares for the SEC Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Mon., Nov. 4.
