Volleyball Picked Third in SEC West
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The LSU volleyball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference Western Division in a preseason poll by the league’s coaches, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.
The Tigers received 45 points and one first place vote from the panel made up of the 11 SEC coaches.
Arkansas, the defending Western Division champions, is the clear favorite in the West with 59 points and nine first place votes.
Alabama is picked second, just ahead of LSU, with 48 points and one first place vote. Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn round out the Western Division selections.
In the East, Florida ran away with the voting, picking up 50 points and 10 first place votes. South Carolina picked up a first place vote en route to 41 points. Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee round out the East.
The Gators, who have won 11 straight SEC championships and nine of the last 10 SEC Tournament titles, were also selected as the overall conference champions, picking up 10 first place votes. South Carolina received the other.
Voting in the West was done on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis while the East was calculated 5-4-3-2-1, with no coach allowed to vote for his/her own team. The East has only five teams as Vanderbilt does not have a squad.
