Soccer Plays Host to LSU Invitational
BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team plays Texas Tech in its 2000 home opener under new head coach George Fotopoulos at the LSU Soccer Complex on Friday at 7 p.m.?
The Tigers are hosting the LSU Invitational on Friday and Sunday.? Teams participating in the Invitational are LSU (2-0), Texas Tech (0-2), Ole Miss (0-2) and Oklahoma State (1-1).?
“I am excited to play at home this weekend,” said Fotopoulos.? “I feel this is going to be a tough weekend and the biggest test of the season for us.” ?
The Tigers opened the season last weekend with a pair of road wins over Troy State and Louisiana-Monroe.? For the first time since soccer began at LSU in 1995, the Tigers are 2-0 to begin a season.?
“LSU has never beaten Texas Tech or Oklahoma State, so these are two important games for us to win.? Both teams are in our region, and the NCAA selection committee looks at wins against teams in your region for postseason play,” said Fotopoulos.
LSU will play Texas Tech Friday evening at 7:00.? The Red Raiders lead the series with Tigers 1-0. The last meeting was in 1995 with Texas Tech winning 2-1.?
On Sunday, the Tigers will face the Cowgirls at 2 p.m.? In 1999, Oklahoma State topped LSU with a 3-1 win in Stillwater, Okla., in the only previous match between the two schools.?
Ole Miss will face Oklahoma State on Friday at 4 p.m. and Texas Tech on Sunday at 11 a.m. ?
The Tigers travel next weekend to Stetson and Embry Riddle for a pair of road games. ?
