Volleyball To Play Purple-Gold Game Friday
BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team will see its first match-like action since the spring when it has an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
“Up to this point, the players have been competing against each other for starting spots and on Friday they will compete for game wins. That is a big change in attitude,” said LSU head coach Fran Flory.
The scrimmage comes exactly one week to the day before the Tigers season-opening match against Santa Clara in the Colorado PowerBar Invitational in Boulder, Colo.
“I think this is absolutely important and I think it’s great we have another week of practice before we compete,” said Flory. “The most important part of this team is the mental approach to things and learning how to win. So, we’ll see if we can put that in play when we are playing for something.”
After two weeks of continuous practices and battling for starting positions, each player will have chance at showing her skills in match situations.
“The first thing we are looking for tonight is a starting lineup. Anytime you put on a uniform under the lights and in front of a crownd you have a heightened level of expectations and I want to see how the players react to that.”
Admission to the match is free to the public.
