Dowdie Second in Sweden

MALMO, Sweden — NCAA 200-meter champion Peta-Gaye Dowdie continued her preparations for the Sydney Olympics with an impressive showing in Malmo, Sweden, on Monday night, finishing second in the 100-meter dash at the Malmo Galan 2000.

Dowdie came up with a season-best time of 11.07, finishing behind former Southern California standout Torri Edwards who won the event in a time of 10.92. 1996 U.S. Olympian Carlette Guidry finished third in 11.10.

Dowdie now heads for her first IAAF Golden League meet Friday night at the Weltklasse in Zurich, Switzerland, viewed as perhaps the premier non-Olympic or World Championship event in the sport of track and field.

The Weltklasse will be televised on ESPN on a tape-delayed basis from 7-9 p.m. CT on Monday night.
