Tigers Continue Newcomer Two-a-Days
BATON ROUGE — Thirty-one LSU freshmen continued to learn the idiosyncrasies of Nick Saban’s system in the second of two newcomer-only two-a-days on Monday at the LSU Practice Facility.
The Tiger newcomers practiced for a little more than two hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. After lunch, they will report back to the practice facility for another two-hour practice at 7:30.
“We had a very good practice this morning,” said head football coach Nick Saban. “I’m very pleased with the amount of progress that we’ve been able to make with these guys, and we’re just going to get as much work done as possible in these few days before the lettermen return.”
The Tigers’ incoming freshmen and walk-ons opened Monday’s practice with an intense stretching routine led by Tommy Moffit, LSU’s strength and conditioning coach. The team then broke off into offensive and defensive groups to concentrate on both team and individual drills.
Monday’s practices were the final “newcomer-only” practices before the varsity squad reports on Tuesday. LSU will hold its first full-squad practice on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
LSU freshmen wide receiver Cory Webster attended practice on Monday after deciding to attend the University as a partial qualifier. He did not attend Saturday’s practices.
