Justin Hill worked for one season (2006) as the LSU baseball program’s volunteer coach after serving in the same capacity for two years at Northwestern (La.) State. Hill’s duties at LSU included serving as director of the Smoke Laval Tiger Baseball Camp.

Hill helped lead Northwestern State to the 2005 Southland Conference regular-season title and an NCAA Regional berth. He also supervised the development of Rusty Jones, a 2005 all-Southland Conference outfielder.

A 2002 LSU graduate, Hill pitched for the Tigers in 2001 as part of legendary coach Skip Bertman’s last team. He appeared in 19 games, tossing 19 innings while compiling a 1-1 record with two saves. Hill also had 27 strikeouts before a shoulder injury cut short his year.

Hill began his playing career at Mississippi Delta Community College before transferring to Bossier Parish (La.) Community College for his sophomore season. At BPCC, Hill recorded a 7-2 mark and a 3.74 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 77 innings (ranking fourth in the nation) and limited opponents to a .199 batting average. He was named an all-Region 23 and all-conference performer and was also a member of the Dean’s List.

Hill began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant at his high school alma mater, West Monroe, helping the Rebels to a district title.
